Great Innovations From Tamrac

Great Innovations From Tamrac

A PLACE FOR EVERYTHING AND EVERYTHING IN ITS PLACE.
The purpose of a Tamrac camera bag is not only to carry and protect your equipment and accessories but to hold them conveniently so that everything can be quickly accessed.   We know that many great photo opportunities last only for a moment and we design our products so these won't be missed.

Total Coverage Tops
Our Total Coverage Top offers triple protection against the elements by providing three levels of security: hook and loop closures for quick access, EasySqueeze™ quick-release buckles for security and a zipper closure for the ultimate weather protection.

Pop-Off™ Pockets
Made of our Exclusive Windowpane-Mesh™, our Pop-Off™ Pockets hold accessories in clear view.  In addition, they can be quickly detached to allow hand inspection at the airport and not risk damage by X-ray security systems. (Updated in 2003)

ZipDrop™ Pockets
ZipDrop™ Pockets can perform as conventional pockets or can be zipped all the way open to allow a full view of the contents.  Each pocket also has an internal zippered mesh pocket for small accessories.

Lens-Bridge® and LensGate® Divider Systems
Our patented Lens-Bridge® Divider System, featured in many of our bags, allows the camera to sit cradled above the rest of the equipment with various lens lengths attached and ready for action.  The camera rides on an adjustable platform insuring a perfect fit with or without a motor drive.  Our LensGate® Divider System has padded gates that swing open and closed to protect equipment from coming in contact. When used together, they provide a vastly superior level of protection.

Tuck-A-Way™ Hip Belt
Tamrac invented the Tuck-A-Way™ Hip Belt and designed the first camera bag that converted to a hip pack.  Created for the photographer who needs hands-free carrying convenience, these bags fit comfortably around the waist and also feature a shoulder strap for those situations where a hip belt is not needed.

Memory & Battery Management System
Many of our camera bags feature the U.S.-patented Memory & Battery Management System, which provides quick access to memory cards, batteries and accessories.  This unique system uses red flags to identify available memory cards and batteries from ones that are used up.

Rolling StrongBoxes™, Rolling Studios™
and Rolling Photo Backpacks

In-line skate wheels or "Big Wheels" along with telescoping handles combine to take the pain out of heavy loads. We offer many wheeled products from Convertible Backpacks to Rolling StrongBoxes™ and Rolling Studios™ that let you roll your equipment instead of bearing the weight on your back.

Strobe Hatch™/Lens Hatch™
The Strobe Hatch™ is a full-length zipper in the back of a Tamrac bag that allows quick and easy access to a lens or strobe stored at the bottom without removing the equipment stored above.  When this feature is not needed, simply swing the platform dividers down to form compartments for smaller lenses and other accessories.

S.A.S.™ - Strap Accessory System™  Tamrac's Strap Accessory System™ has components that attach to the shoulder straps of most of our camera bags and backpacks to allow photographers to personalize and customize their bags and packs.

M.A.S™ - Modular Accessory System™
This system allows photographers to customize and personalize their packs and bags by using accessories that quickly attach to any belt or to Tamrac products that have Modular Accessory System™ attachment slots.

Slide Pockets™
These unique pockets slide out quickly from inside the front of the camera bag to provide the quickest possible access to photo and digital accessories.  These Slide Pockets™ feature Tamrac’s U.S.-patented Memory & Battery Management System™ that uses red flags to identify available memory cards and batteries.

Piggy-Back Pocket™
The Piggy-Back Pocket™ is a Tamrac design innovation which enables many of our camera bags to be easily slipped over the handle and held securely while riding on top of our rolling bags.

QuickClip™ Tripod Attachment System
The QuickClip™ Tripod attachment system allows tripods to be held secure, balanced and ready for action. This is a stable solution for photographers traveling with a professional tripod.

Giant Rain Flaps
Giant Rain Flaps protect the zippers for the ultimate rain protection without compromising quick access. With waterproofed materials and Giant Rain Flaps, Tamrac backpacks offer the highest protection and the quickest access.

Windowpane-Mesh™
This Tamrac invention combines clear vinyl and nylon mesh to give strength and provide easy viewing to the contents of our film and accessory pockets.

TurboTop® - Fast Access Camera Lids
Tamrac's U.S.-patented TurboTop® opens with a quick pull of the parallel double zippers to provide instant access to photo equipment without having to unbuckle the flap top of the camera bag.  It provides two ways to access the gear, quickly through the TurboTop® or the conventional way through the Speed Flap Top.

Dual-Foam Technology™
First instituted in our professional lens cases many years ago, Dual-Foam Technology™ is used in many of our bags today.  It combines closed-cell foam to provide maximum shock protection with open-cell foam for vibration dampening and a custom fit.

LockDown™ Rain Flaps
For the ultimate in weather protection, this Tamrac design innovation tightly cinches and locks down the Giant Rain Flaps on many of our backpacks to provide an extremely weather-resistant barrier to protect the main compartment zipper from the elements.

The Tamrac Difference

Material and Workmanship

The Finest Fabrics
PowerGrid™ Cordura® from Dupont Corporation and PowerGrid™ nylon with Spectra® from Allied Signal Corporation. This PowerGrid™ weave creates a material with extraordinary tear strength.

PowerGrid™ Cordura®
Cordura® nylon has set the standard in high performance fabrics in outdoor, industrial and military applications.  PowerGrid ™ Cordura® is created for Tamrac with a three-ply woven grid of Cordura® fiber woven into Cordura® fabric. This PowerGrid™ weave adds significant strength to this already super-strong material. A double waterproof internal coating assures weather proofing. We are very proud that most Tamrac products are now constructed of PowerGrid™ Cordura®.

PowerGrid™ Nylon Lining
The inside linings of nearly all our camera bags are of a smooth, weatherproof, lightweight nylon that does not collect dust or lint.  We use linings that are gray in color to make it easier to find equipment in low light.

Ballistic Nylon
Ballistic Nylon was named "Ballistic" because it is used in conjunction with Kevlar® to make bullet proof vests. Although it is extremely tough, it has a remarkably smooth texture so it is not abrasive and does not collect dirt or lint.  We use ballistic nylon in our industrial cases like our Rolling StrongBoxes™ and also in our Digital Series products.

PolyTek™

PolyTek™ is smooth, very tightly woven, extremely strong and double coated to provide superior weatherproofing.  It is used in most of our 5000 Series Products.

Thick, Closed-Cell Foam Protection

Our camera bags and packs are lined with thick, closed-cell foam for the very best shock and vibration protection.

ABS Platforms
Our larger bags, cases and backpacks receive extra protection from a bottom platform of tough ABS plastic, the same plastic used in football helmets.

Windowpane-Mesh™
A Tamrac innovation developed in the early eighties, Windowpane-Mesh™ combines clear vinyl and nylon mesh for film and accessory pockets.

ToughTek™ Mesh
The mesh accessory pockets of our backpacks are constructed with ToughTek™ mesh, a coated mesh that holds accessories in view yet is strong enough to take abuse on the roughest expeditions.

Other Material Innovations
Our exclusive EasyGrip™ composite material is used in the handles for most of our products.  The material is exceptionally non-slip, yet soft and easy on your hands.

Zippers
We use high quality, self-healing nylon coil zippers in all of our products (except vests). When zippers are used in extreme situations, the importance of self-healing coil cannot be over emphasized. In major openings and pockets we use ZipClip™ zipper pulls for quick access.

Hardware
Tamrac products are engineered with the finest hardware application for each task. We were the first company to use side release buckles on camera bags (almost 20 years ago) and our Easy Squeeze™ buckles have received world-wide acclaim. We are the only camera bag company to use welded, heavy duty Double Bar D Rings that never turn sideways and ultra-strong metal snap-hooks for security.
Workmanship
For over twenty years we have built our reputation on legendary quality. Our workmanship and quality are the combination of excellent sewing and product engineering that is reinforced with the finest materials, threads, findings.  We know how to make it right the first time.

ABOUT TAMRAC

Tamrac - the rough and tough, but a shell for your precious camera........

About Tamrac

The Idea Is Born.
The concept behind Tamrac’s camera carrying systems was conceived in 1977. Tamrac’s founders were outdoor enthusiasts who loved nature photography. They, like many amateur and professional photographers, had a strong need for camera bags that were tough enough to offer excellent protection, yet were easy to carry and allowed fast access to camera equipment to capture spontaneous wildlife pictures.

Stoney Point - Chatsworth, CA
Without a satisfactory product in the marketplace, the founders of Tamrac, in true California entrepreneurial spirit, began manufacturing their own camera bags. They designed these bags specifically for wilderness photography. California’s diverse geography provided an unparalleled backdrop for the first adventures of Tamrac into the wild. From the desolate landscapes of Death Valley to the towering granite peaks of Yosemite, the products pioneered at Tamrac met the challenges California had to offer.

California Pines
What’s in a Name?
The name Tamrac was created to reflect the rugged outdoors. A pine found in the American wilderness was used as inspiration for the name. From the beginning, the Tamrac logo has included a likeness of a pine.
